Updated business parameters during COVID-19 outbreak

3/23/2020

At this time the State of Michigan has issued an executive order that states “service providers may designate workers as critical infrastructure workers” to continue operations. Although this designation is at best ambiguous, in looking at surrounding states and their declarations we do fall into a category that will allow us to maintain operation unless we are informed otherwise.

As much as we would like to conduct “ business as usual”, the current situation is anything but usual. After additional reflection today on how to best protect both our customers and employees, we have decided on the following guidelines for conducting business:

Sales of new equipment:
We respectfully request that you call ahead and set up an appointment time. We will greet you at the front door and allow you into the showroom. If you come without an appointment, you will be allowed in provided no one else is in the area of the new equipment you are considering.

Sales of parts:
Please complete the form on the first page (Parts Request Form) or call us with your information and requests prior to coming. Please give us an hour, and we will pull the parts and meet you at the door when you arrive, similar to carry-out. We will allow you in the store if required, provided no one else is within the parts area.

Service requests for equipment:
Please complete the form below (Service Request Form) or call us with the information to pre-fill a work order before your arrival. We can complete the transaction quite quickly in this manner.

Pickup of repaired equipment
Please call us in advance with the name or tag number and estimated time of arrival. We will pull out the piece of equipment and have it in front with the invoice printed.

While no one including ourselves likes imposing such restrictions, we also must think of everyone working in our facility. We are a very tight-knit group and if one contracts the virus, we all must go into a quarantined state which will result in a total shut-down of the business for that period.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration during this unprecedented time.

WINTERIZING YOUR MOWER

As we sit here in the middle of November with 60 degree temperatures, it may seem like we will never need to winterize our mowers this year! Alas, the time is coming sooner than you think. Check out this great video from Toro that explains how to winterize a mower. Please call us if you have any questions about your specific equipment.

A note about Ethanol

8/21/2015

In recent years we have seen a rash of equipment in need of fuel system overhauls due to old gas causing a residue build-up preventing proper fuel flow. Ethanol is the main culprit in most of these cases. It attracts water within the gasoline and this combination can cause the ethanol to drop out of suspension, leaving the residual gas to gum up the fuel components. Additionally, when the ethanol has been in the equipment for an extended period of time it can cause deterioration of the interior components.

We recommend that customers purchase gas no more than a week prior to use and only plan to store it for three weeks. Any longer than that runs a greater risk of moisture entering the fuel supply and reacting as described above. When finished using the equipment for the season purchase ethanol-free gasoline (we sell quarts of it, as do most hardware stores) and run that through your fuel system until the machine stops. This way the only fuel left in the fuel system for storage does not contain potentially-damaging ethanol.

Here is an infographic produced by Echo Incorporated a couple of years ago. It does a fantastic job of explaining ethanol.
