About Us

In July of 1973 Mark King and his parents, Ann and Len, opened a little business called Mark's Small Engines in Northville, MI, located off of Center Street where the Saw Mill now flourishes.  In addition to his parents, Mark's soon-to-be wife, Ellen, helped out by working at the store when she wasn't teaching.  In the fall of 1974 they moved the business to its present location, working out of the back of an old green house that stood on the property.

While she was in high school, Mark's sister Kay started helping out by selling parts.  After she graduated she went to work as a legal secretary until 1982, when Ann and Len decided they wanted less to do with the business.  Eventually, Kay agreed to become a part-owner of the store, taking over the Parts Department (and many, many other roles) of Mark's Outdoor Power Equipment.

Over the years, Mark's Outdoor Power Equipment has grown, and the name has changed (from Mark's Small Engines)... but the friendly, neighborly feel of the store has remained the same.  35 years after first opening, Mark and Kay remain two of the most knowledgeable people in the field of lawn, garden, and landscaping equipment.
